Tip Before You Go On Your Trip:

Turn water heater down to a low setting.

Turn your heat down or off, but be sure to leave the house warm enough in the winter so that pipes do not freeze.

Leave shades or drapes as you normally do.

Plug a radio and light into a timer so you can have some noise and activity in the house during part of the day.

Lock doors and windows including basement & garage.

Unplug expensive electronic items (such as your computer), in case of an electrrical storm. At least make sure your surge protectors are properly installed.

Pack the car inside the garage, with the door down, so people driving by won’t find out you’re leaving as your pack.

Conduct a last minite walk through the house, while talking through any points you might have missed. Pets, plants, phones numbers, tickets, bags, etc….
